Why does the Livia GP have a vibration pump?

Thank you for the interest and support since we launched the Livia GP. Since launch, one question has come up more than any other: “Why does the Livia GP use a vibration pump rather than a rotary pump?”
Many machines in this price bracket use rotary pumps. We chose a dual vibration pump system for two reasons.
1. Full performance, both boilers
A standard vibration pump can only supply one water source at a time. On many machines, this forces a trade-off: you lose performance in either espresso extraction or steaming when attempting both simultaneously. A rotary pump can handle multiple sources, which is why most dual-boiler machines favor them.
The Livia GP takes a different route: two vibration pumps, one dedicated to each boiler. You can pull espresso and steam milk at the same time without any loss of performance — neither side competes for power.
2. Superior flavor
The second reason is flavor. We believe vibration pumps produce a superior espresso, and the engineering backs this up.
Premium rotary pump machines often incorporate complex dual-position brew valves to transition from low to high pressure. This is necessary because the instant, full-bar pressure of a rotary pump can cause channeling. A vibration pump, however, is naturally suited for espresso: it begins at 0 bar and gradually increases pressure until it reaches equilibrium.
This creates a natural, steady preinfusion that saturates the coffee grounds before full pressure builds. The result: a more balanced shot and a better extraction.

It is the same approach we have taken since the Livia 90: simple, serviceable, and built to last.
